On an incompletely random note

Well, I noticed that someone came here through a search for "A as in Aesop," so I decided to see if anyone else had some good ones. This guy has the best.

If any of you are seeking more information about Leslie (someone actually came to the blog searching for information about her accident), there was an article in the Eagle today about her death.

Tuesday, July 15, 2003

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but "Leslie was pronounced dead at 12:45."

As Eric says in his away message, "at least she's in a better place."

I'm so sorry.

Update

A bit of an update from Eric regarding Leslie:

"At 12 they are going to do the important test; it tests her neurological activity, and if it comes up negative then, there's not much they can do"

So, now it's past 12 and he's at the hospital now.

If any of you know Leslie Snell (she graduated with us, class of '03), you might want to know that she was in a terrible car accident today. She is in critical condition and it is possible that she will not make it through the night. From the brief time I spent talking with Eric Capps, he said that he had been at the Med all day and that her list of injuries included a fractured pelvis and jaw and also "brain whiplash," as he called it, where the right side of her brain "slammed into her skull, so basically if the doctors can't keep the swelling down she will die."

So, if you will, pray for her recovery.

This is kind of sad

"A Santa Monica elementary school has banned the game of tag, once synonymous with youth and innocence, because they say it creates self-esteem issues among weaker and slower children."

From what they describe, having children pick who's on what team is a far more degrading experience than playing tag.

Great fun

This is great. Have you ever had one of those emails forwarded to you that says something like "warning: I had my kidneys ripped out and I was placed in a bathtub full of ice, etc."? I got one of those several years ago, and it is now part of the "internet hoax archive." They keep track of all those fake emails, etc. It's pretty interesting and worth a look if you're moderately bored.

Heh. Here's an excerpt of one of the less serious ones:
WARNING!! BEWARE GREEKS(Geeks) BEARING GIFTS!

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

IF YOU RECEIVE A GIFT IN THE SHAPE OF A LARGE WOODEN HORSE DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT!!!! It is EXTREMELY DESTRUCTIVE and will overwrite your ENTIRE CITY!

The "gift" is disguised as a large wooden horse about two stories tall. It tends to show up outside the city gates and appears to be abandoned. DO NOT let it through the gates! It contains hardware that is incompatible with Trojan programming, including a crowd of heavily armed Greek warriors that will destroy your army, sack your town, and kill your women and children. If you have already received such a gift, DO NOT OPEN IT! Take it back out of
the city unopened and set fire to it by the beach.

FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

Meredith is crazy

Meredith, you are INSANE! :-) I just might take 17 hours, but that's stretching it.

Why the change now? I thought you were already done with your new student orientation.

Ha!

I beat 20 questions. I beat it up. I thought of cello, and it couldn't guess it. Here is the result:
Knowledgebase Updated
Contradictions:
A cello is comforting
A cello is commonly used
It does not matter if our answers disagree, overtime my answers will change to reflect common knowledge.
The best way to fix these contradictions is to play again.

Things I didn't know:
A cello is not in charge
You cannot play games with a cello
A cello is not multicolored
A cello cannot be washed
You don't make something with a cello
A cello is not considered helpful to humans
A cello is not something you bring along
A cello does have a hole in it
